Notice from CANG8, May 2, 2012

Friends,

We are within weeks of the NATO summits in Chicago on May 20-21. We wanted to update you and others in your organization about the events that CANG8 (Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Poverty Agenda) is organizing in the weeks before the summit. Please share this email with your listserves so we can keep people updated.

Thursday, May 3rd, 7pm to 9pm: Town Hall meeting at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. 26th Street, in the shadow of the NATO summit. The congregation will co-host the event with CANG8 and speakers at the Town Hall will include:  Fr. Bob Bossie, 8th Day Center for Justice; Mary Dean, Voices for Creative Non-Violence, who spent part of last year in Afghanistan; Margaret Jackson, American Friends Service Committee; Rabbi Brant Rosen, Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston.  National Nurses United and the Iraq Veterans Against the War will also have spokespersons present.

May 12–13: The People‚Äôs Summit will convene at Occupy Chicago Headquarters, 500 W. Cermak in Chicago. Registration is free! Click here for registrationworkshop information, and keynote speakers.

May 20: March and Rally to Protest NATO starting at noon at Petrillo Bandshell. The Iraq Veteran's Against the War (IVAW) will be marching with us in solidarity. At the end of the march, within sight and sound of McCormick Place, members of IVAW will conduct the closing ceremony where they will return their medals to NATO. It will be a moving event, and not to be missed.
